Boots for men or women that end at the ankle. Women’s ankle boots tend to have heels, but with the rise of biker boots, ankle boot styles without heels become more and more popular.

Also known as dealer boots, jodhpur boots or paddock boots. A close-cut ankle boot. Its main characteristics are the elastic side panel and a tab of fabric on the back. Since they do not need lacing, Chelsea boots can be easily slipped on and off. The style came first into fashion during the Victorian era, and gained popularity in the mod scene of the sixties and as work boot in Australia.
Also known as turf boots. An ankle boot made from leather or suede with two or three pairs of eyelets. The sole is crepe rubber, but can be leather as well. The name derives from polo, where “chukka” means a certain period of play. In World War II, Chukka boots served as desert boots for British soldiers.

Boots that go over the knee. Once considered an item of the fetish scene and the BDSM subculture, designers transformed thigh-high boots into a fashion statement, though they are still considered racy.
Also known as wedgies or lifties. Boots with heels that are shaped like a wedge. Most wedge boots are women’s footwear; often wedge boots have a slightly thicker platform sole in the front as well.
Also known as cowboy boots. These boots are a specific style of riding boot that was historically worn by American cowboys. Cowboy boots are made from cowhide leather, but also other skins like snake, alligator, elk, buffalo or even ostrich. Western boots have a characteristic style: an at least mid-calf shaft, no lacing, and an angled heel. These boots are some kind of exception as a noticeable taller heel is allowed for men.
